When King Arad, the Canaanite, heard that Israel was coming on the road from Atharim he led a battle against Israel and took many captive. There Israel made a vow to the Lord and said: if you will deliver this people into my hand I will banish their cities. And the Lord heard this and delivered the Canaanites into their hand to banish them and their cities and the place was called “Hormah”.
