And the Lord spoke to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai in the tabernacle on the first day of the second month in the second year after they came out of Egypt and said: Take the sum of all the congregation of the children of Israel according to their gender, clan and names, head by head, everything male from twenty years old and upward, all that is fit for military service in Israel. Ye shall count them after your host, you and Aaron. From each tribe shall stand a head of his clan.

From Ruben Elizur, son of Shedeur, 46 500 men.
From Simeon Shelumiel, son of Zurisaddai, 59 300 men.
From Judah Nahshon, son of Amminadab, 74 600 men.
From Issachar Nathanael, son of Zuar 54 400 men.
From Sebulon Eliab,son of Helon, 57 400 men.
From Naphtali Ahira, son of Enan, 53 400 men.
From Ephraim Elichama, son of Ammihud, 57 400 men.
From Manasseh Gamliel, son of Pedahzur, 32 200 men.
From Benjamin Abidan, son of Gideoni, 35 400 men.
From Dan Ahieser, son of Ammisaddai, 62 700 men.
From Asser Pagiel, son of Ocran, 41 500 men.
From Gad Eliasaph, son of Reguel, 45 650 men.

These are the appointed, the twelve princes of the tribes of Israel.
Moses and Aaron shall take the men. They will enroll themselves by gender, kinship and name. Then God counted them and there were 46 500 men in Ruben’s house.There were 59 300 in Simeon’s house; the total number: 603 550.

Thou shalt not take the tribe of Levi among the children of Israel, thou shalt instead order the service of the tabernacle of the law of all their equipment and everything that goes with it. You should take them into your care and store them. And when ye go thence, the Levites shall cancel the residence. And when the camp settles, they should set up the residence; and if a stranger comes near, he shall perish. All of you should store your own equipment. The children of Israel shall reside as everyone in the camp, so that no zone comes over the town.
