As the third of the pastoral letters it is considered to have been written under a pseudonym by a theologist of the early Christian church belonging to the Pauline tradition, and which was imputed to Paul.
Rejecting false teaching, respecting the duties of the church assembly. Titus who is the person addressed is considered to be the first Bishop of Crete, where he had earlier been left behind. As overseer or elder, in other words as the highest individual representative of the local assembly and its members. This ensured the internal and external unity of the assembly and strongly contributed to the development of church officialdom.
