When the gaoler awoke from his sleep and saw what was happening he snatched his sword and wanted to kill himself because he thought the prisoners had fled. Paul called to him: do not harm yourself we are all there. He asked for light and ran inside starting to tremble and fell at Paul and Saul’s feet. “What shall I do?” he asked. Believe in the Lord Jesus and your house will be blessed. Paul told him of the word of God and all were in his house. They washed their wounds and gave them food.
As it was day the town judges sent the bailiffs who let them go. But Paul said to them: you have you have flogged us publicly and thrown us in prison as Roman citizens without proper trial and now you are sending us away in secret. They should come themselves and lead us out. The city judges came then out of fear and led them out.
