He chose the best people, including 120,000 men in the infantry and 12,000 mounted archers. To transport his war supplies, Holofernes assembled a large number of camels, donkeys, and mules. To feed them, he gathered an innumerable herd of sheep, cattle, and goats. He also had other rich provisions as well as gold and silver from Nebuchadnezzar’s palace. He set out on his march to overrun all the lands of the west. He conquered Put and plundered and set fire to the Rassisites and the Ishmaelites, crossed the Euphrates, moved through Mesopotamia, destroyed villages and cities and pushed on all the way to the coast. He killed all the young men with his sharp sword.
