And the anger of the Lord burned against Israel. And he moved David against them, saying, “Go, count Israel and Judah,” and he ordered Joab to do it.
They went back and forth through the country and returned to Jerusalem after 9 months and 20 days. So there were 800,000 fighting men in Israel who carried the sword, in Judah there were 500,000.
And David realized that he had sinned. “And now, Lord, remove the guilt of your servant.”
