Joab blew the trumpet, and all the people pursued Israel no further. They put Absalom into a great pit in the forest, and threw a heap of stones over him. Then all Israel fled to their own tents. Now Absalom had raised a pillar in the king’s valley when he was still alive. Because he had no son, he named it “Absalom’s monument.”
Ahimaaz wanted to report this to the King, but Joab held him back, “No, people!”
And Joab said to the Cushite, “Go and tell the king what you have seen.” The Cushite bowed and went.
But Ahimaaz could not rest until he was able to go and he hurried ahead of the Cushite, so he got to David before he did. Ahimaaz fell down before David, “Peace! Blessed is the Lord, who has delivered up the men who lifted up their hand against my king!”
