And when the army came out against Israel, there was a battle in the forest of Ephraim. And Israel’s army was defeated by David’ army. Twenty thousand men fell, and the forest devoured more people that day than the sword devoured.

Absalom met David’s servants. Absalom was riding on his mule, and the mule went under a large oak tree, and his head was caught in the oak, and he hung between heaven and earth, because the mule went on. Joab found out about it from his man, and he said to him, “I would have given you ten pieces of silver if you had struck him.” But the man said, “Though I should receive a thousand pieces of silver, I still would not stretch out my hand against the king’s son, for the king commanded it of you in my hearing.” But Joab took three darts and thrust them in Absalom’s heart. And ten young men who bore Joab’s armor struck him dead.
