Then David learned that every man’s heart was for Absalom and decided to flee with his servants. And when they were at the last house of Jerusalem, they all stopped and all his servants remained at his side. But all the Cherethites and the Pelethites, and those from Gath ran on.
All the country wept with a loud voice. And the king and all his army passed over the brook Kidron. The Levites followed with the ark. But David sent them back with the ark through Zadok and Abiathar to Jerusalem. And David went up barefoot to the Mount of Olives and wept with his head covered. When David was told that Ahithophel was with Absalom, he said to the Lord, “Let the counsel of Ahithophel be turned into foolishness.”
