After two years, Absalom had sheep shearers in Baal Hazor, and he invited his brothers to come. But the king did not want all the sons to go to Baal Hazor.
But Absalom urged his father to let Amnon and all the sons go with him. And Absalom made a feast and said, “Wait until Amnon’s heart is merry with wine, and when I tell you, ‘Strike Amnon,’ then kill him.” And this came to pass. Then all the king’s sons jumped on their mules and fled.
While they were on the way, the news came to David that Absalom had slain all the king’s sons, and there was not one of them left. Then the king and all his servants tore their garments. But Jonadab comforted David and told him this cannot be true and that only Amnon was dead, because he had shamed Tamar. But Absalom fled. As the guard was on watch, he saw David’s sons coming home. Absalom went to Talmai the son of Ammihur, king of Geshur and stayed there for three years. And David mourned for his son Amnon.
