When David was living contentedly in his house, he said to Nathan the prophet, “See, I live in a house of cedar, but God’s ark is under curtains.” God spoke to Nathan that night,”Go to my servant David and tell him in my name that he will build me a house. I have not lived in a house since I led the children of Israel out of Egypt. I will give my people a place and I will plant them, that they may dwell there and be moved no more. I will raise a descendant from your own body and I will establish his kingdom. He will build a house for my name and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. I will be his father and he will be my son. If he sins, I will chasten him with the rod of men.
