And David said to Achish, “Give me a place to live in one of the cities of your country.” And Achish gave him Ziklag. Therefore Ziklag belongs to Judah to this day. David lived in the land of the Philistines for a year and four months.
David raided the Geshurites, the Girzites and the Amalekites, and left no man or woman alive, and took away the cattle, the sheep, the donkeys, the camels and clothing and returned. But David told a different story to Achish, “I raided the south of Judah, the south of the Jerahmeelites, and the south of the Kenites.” Achish believed David, saying, “He has made his people Israel utterly abhor him. Therefore he will be my servant forever.”
