And when David went over to the other side, he stood on the top of the mountain afar off, so a great space was between them. David cried to the army and to Abner the son of Ner, “Will you not answer, Abner?” Abner answered, “Who are you who cries to the king?” David said, “Aren’t you not a man? Why have you not kept watch over your king in the night? For one of the people came in to kill him. This was not good. You are worthy to die, because you were sleeping. Now see where the king’s spear is, and the jar of water!” Saul recognized David’s voice. “Yes, it is my voice.” David said, “Why does my king and his army pursue his servant? What have I done? What evil is in my hand? Has the king of Israel has come out to seek a flea?” And Saul said, “I have sinned. Return, my son David.” David answered, “Let someone come over and get your spear, which I have here, and see how much your life is worth to me. Saul said, “Be blessed, my son David, in all you do and accomplish.” And they both went their way.
