The people of Ziph came to Saul to Gibeah and told him that David was hiding at the hill of Hachilah near Jeshimon. And Saul went with 3,000 chosen men to the wilderness of Ziph. Saul encamped on the hill of Hachilah. But David was in the wilderness when he heard of it, and he set out for Saul’s camp. So David and Abishai came to the camp by night. Saul lay sleeping in the innermost circle of the camp. His spear was stuck in the ground at his head. Abner and the people lay around him. Abishai said, “God has given Saul into your hands. Kill him.” But David said, “Do not kill him. The Lord will strike him, when his time comes. For who can lay his hand on the anointed? Take only the spear and the jar of water, and let us go.” And no one noticed any of it, because it was a sleep from the Lord.
