And David went from there and stayed in the strongholds at En Gedi. Saul was told of this and he went with 3,000 of the best men of all Israel and went to seek David on the rocks of the wild goats. By the sheepfolds, there was a cave and Saul went in to relieve himself. David and his men were staying in the innermost parts of the cave. David’s men said to him, “Behold, this is day of which the Lord said to you, ‘Behold, I will deliver your enemy into your hand and you shall do to him as it seems good to you.’ ” And David arose, and cut off a corner of Saul’s robe secretly. And David’s heart struck him because of it. Then he told his men sternly to not stretch out their hand against God’s anointed.
