David said, “I am the son of your servant Jesse the Bethlehemite.” And the heart of Jonathan, the son of Saul, was knit to the heart of David. Saul took him into his house. And Jonathan took off his robe and his armor and gave it to David, along with his sword, his bow and his sash.
And Saul went into battle and David went out wherever Saul sent him and acted wisely. So Saul set him over the men of war.
This pleased all the people. And when David returned from the victory over the Philistines, the women came out singing and dancing to meet David. And they sang, “Saul has slain one thousand, but David ten thousand.” When Saul heard this, he looked upon David with displeasure from that day onward.
