The men were distressed that day, because Saul made the people swear an oath. Saul said, “Fast until I am avenged of my enemies.” So none of the people had eaten. There were honeycombs on the ground and the honey was dripping, but no one ate any of it, for fear of their oath. But Jonathan had not heard about his father’s oath. Jonathan said, “Do you not see how my father has troubled the land?”
Then the people fell upon the plunder. They took sheep, cattle, and calves and killed them, so the blood flowed on the ground and they ate the meat with the blood. All the people brought every man his ox with him that night and killed them there. Because Saul had commanded it of them.
