Samuel judged in Israel and when he was old, he made his sons judges in Israel. His first son was named Joel, the second Abijah. But they did not walk in the way of Samuel. They were corrupt, took bribes and perverted justice. This displeased Samuel.
The people came and said, “Give us a king.”
God said, “Listen to the voice of the people.” But Samuel warned the people about the taxes and duties for the king. But the people refused to listen to Samuel.
But God said, “Listen to their voice, and make them a king.”
Samuel said, “Good, everyone go to your own city.”
