God, the heathens have come into your inheritance. They have defiled your holy temple and laid Jerusalem in heaps. They have given the dead bodies of your servants to be food for the birds, and the flesh of women for the wild animals. Their blood they have shed like water around Jerusalem. How long, Lord, will you be angry forever? Come to us in your mercy. Help, oh God, to heal us; forgive us our sins, so that the heathens may not say: “Where is their God?” Free the groaning, and those marked for death! But we will praise you forever.

Hear us, shepherd of Israel, you who lead Joseph like a flock. You, who sit enthroned above cherubim, shine out before Ephraim and Benjamin, and Manasseh, stir up your might. Cause your face to shine on us, and we will be saved. Lord God, how long will you be angry while your people are praying? Our enemies insult us. You brought a vine out of Egypt; you have driven out the nations, and planted it. You cleared the ground for it. It took root, and filled the land. The mountains were covered with its shadow. Its boughs were like God’s cedars, to the sea, and to the Euphrates. Why have you broken down its walls to allow it to be plundered? The wild animals feed on it, and the boar ravages on it.
