Hear this, all you peoples. Listen, all you inhabitants of the world,
both low and high, rich and poor together –
hear the wise words which my heart shall utter.
I will incline my ear
to a proverb, and open
my riddle on the harp.
Why should I fear in the days of evil,
when iniquity and evildoers surround me?
For we see that wise men die;
likewise the fool and the senseless perish.
The grave is their eternal home.
Man, despite his riches, does not endure,
he is like the animals that perish.
This is the destiny of those
who are trust in themselves,
and of those who approve great words.
Death leads them on a meadow like sheep;
they go down into Sheol.
But God will redeem my soul from there
and he will receive me.

Forget this, for no one takes anything with them to death.
Glory does not descend after man,
down to the multitude of nations
who will never see the light again.
