Hilkiah rent his garments and put on a sack and he sent his emissaries to Isaiah. “The king of Assyria blaspheming God, leading us into shame, misery and flogging” said Isaiah. Fear not, so said the Lord, at the words of Sennacherib Rabshakeh. See, I will change his mind so that he will return again into his land. And there I will slay him with the sword. Hilkiah received a letter and published it in the house of the Lord. Hilkiah prayed to the Lord but Isaiah spoke to God rebuking Hilkiah’s qualities and his cities and lands.
Sennacherib was put to the sword by his sons in the house of his God Nisroch. His son Esar Haddon became King of Assyria.
