The Lord said to Moses and Aaron: this is a requirement of the law that the Lord has commanded: tell the Israelites to bring you a red heifer without defect or blemish and that has never been under a yoke. Give it to Eleazar the priest; he is to take it outside the camp and let it be slaughtered in his presence. Then Eleazar the priest is to take some of its blood on his finger and sprinkle it seven times toward the front of the tabernacle and have it burned while he watches. Its hide, flesh, blood and even its dung. The priest is to take some cedar wood, hyssop and scarlet wool and throw them onto the burning heifer and wash his clothes and bathe himself with water and then come into the camp and be ceremonially unclean till evening. And whoever burns it shall do the same.
A clean manshall gather up the ashes of the heifer and put them in a ceremonially clean place outside the camp. They are to be kept by the Israelite community for use in the water of cleansing. A sin offering. The man who does this shall also wash his clothes and body and be unclean until evening. This will be a lasting ordinance for all, including foreigners.

Whoever touches a corpse will be unclean for seven days and should purify himself with cleansing water. He is to purify himself on the third and seventh day, or he will not become clean. Whoever does not do this when he has touched a corpse shall be weeded out. Because the water is not splashed upon him he remains unclean.
This is a law, when a person dies in his tent, each person who goes into the tent or who is in it will be unclean for seven days. Every open container will also be unclean. Also anyone out in the open who touched someone killed by a sword, or who has died or a grave will be unclean for seven days. One is to take the ashes of a burnt sin offering and pour water over it into a container. A clean man is to take hyssop and dip it into the water and splash the tent and every person and container inside who have touched a dead person or bones. The clean man should splash the water on the third and seventh day and purify on the seventh day and then wash his clothes and do what is customary. Whoever does not purify himself in this way he is to be weeded out of the community for he has defiled the sanctuary of the Lord. This is a lasting ordinance. The man who splashed the water is also to wash his clothes and be unclean until evening. Also unclean until the evening, he that touches the cleansing water.
