And the Lord said to Moses on Mount Sinai: Speak to the children of Israel: When you come into the land which I am giving to you, you shall celebrate the Sabbath.
Prune thy vineyard for six years, and gather the fruit. But in the seventh year you shall have a solemn Sabbath for the Lord. Because thy shalt neither sow thy field nor prune thy vineyard. Thou shalt not reap mature fruits, not even the grape. It shall be a sabbath year in the country. Ye shall not eat from what grows during the sabbatical year. You and all the farmhands.
Thou shalt have seven sabbaticals seven times and count seven years which makes it 49 years. Because thou shalt let the trumpet blow throughout the land, on the tenth day of the seventh month, the Day of Atonement. Ye shall hallow the fiftieth year. It is to be proclaimed a jubilee, throughout the country, and be so for all eternity. Thou shalt not sow, grow or reap, not even from the vineyard. It shall be holy to you. Whatever you find in the field is permitted to be eaten.
That is the Jubilee, because everyone will come to it.
Thou shalt not take advantage of your brother, if you sell or buy something. Instead thou shalt count from the number of years from the Jubilee and buy it from him then.
Then he should sell it for as many years as it still brings annual income. If there are many years left, you may raise its purchase price, but if there are few years left you must reduce it. Because he is selling you the number of crops, so thou shalt not defraud thy neighbour, but instead fear thy God.
These are the statutes you shall follow. And the land shall yield its fruit. And if you ask what we shall eat in the seventh year if we do not sow nor reap, I will offer you my blessing in the sixth year, so that you shall maintain your corn for three years.
So that you may sow the old grain in the eighth year to eat in the ninth year, and eat from all until the new grain grows.
The land shall therefore not be sold forever, and you are all strangers and resident alients here.
And you shall grant redemption to all the land.
