When Ahab died, Moab rebelled against Israel. Ahaziah fell down through the lattice on the top floor and was sick. And he sent messengers, “Go and inquire of Baal Zebub, the god of Ekron, whether I shall recover from this sickness.”
The angel of the Lord said to Elijah the Tishbite, “Go meet the messengers of the king and ask them, ‘Is there no God in Israel, that you go to inquire of Baal Zebub? Now therefore the Lord says, “You will never get up from your bed and you will die.” The messenger returned and the king said, “Why have you returned already?” They answered him, “Lord our king, a man came to meet us, who had long hair and a leather belt around his waist. He was Elijah.” Then the king sent fifty men and a captain to Elijah.
He was sitting on top of the hill and the captain said, “You, man of God, come down to the king.” Elijah said, “If I am I a man of God, let fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty men.” And they were consumed. Then the king sent another captain to Elijah with fifty men and the same thing happened. And again the king sent a captain with fifty men to Elijah. The captain fell on his knees before Elijah, pleaded with him and said, “You, man of God, spare my life and my fifty servants. And the angel of the Lord said to Elijah, “Go down with him and don’t be afraid of him.” And he went down and came to the king, and he said to him, “Because you have sent messengers to Baal Zebub as if there were no God in Israel of whose word you could have inquired, you will not get up from the bed in which you lay and you will surely die.” So Ahaziah died and Joram, son of Jehoshaphat, king of Judah, became king because Ahaziah had no son.
