Jehoshaphat, the son of Asa, began became king over Judah in the fourth year of Ahab. He was thirty-five years old, and he reigned twenty-five years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi. And he walked in all the ways that were pleasing to the Lord. But he did not remove the high places and allowed the people to sacrifice and burn incense there. He made peace with Israel. He put the temple prostitutes out of the land who remained from the days of his father Asa. There was a governor and not a king in Edom.
Jehoshaphat built ships of Tarshish to go to Ophir for gold, but they did not go, because the ships wrecked at Ezion Geber. Then Ahaziah the son of Ahab said to Jehoshaphat, “Let my people go with your servants in the ships.” But Jehoshaphat would not allow it. Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers and was buried in the city of David his father. His son Jehoram became king in his place.
