And Elijah the Tishbite, of Tishbe in Gilead, said to Ahab, “There shall be no dew nor rain these years, unless I say so.”
And the word of the Lord came to him, “Go away from here, turn eastward and hide yourself by the brook Cherith. You shall drink from the brook. I have commanded the ravens to feed you there.”
He went and sat down by the brook and the ravens brought him bread and meat every morning and evening. After a while that the brook dried up, because there was no rain in the land.
Then came the word of the Lord came to him: “Arise, go to Zarephath in Sidon, for I have commanded a widow there to sustain you.” And he went to Zarephath. At the gate of the city, there was a widow who was gathering sticks. And he called to her, “Bring me a little water, that I may drink.” “And a morsel of bread,” he called after her. But she said, “I have nothing baked, but only a handful of meal in a jar, and a little oil in a jar. I am gathering a stick or two, to go home and prepare us something to eat, that we may eat it and die.” Elijah said, “Don’t be afraid. Go and make me something to eat first and then for you and your son.
For the Lord says, ‘The jar of meal will not run out, and the jar of oil will not fail, until the day that Lord sends rain.’ ” She went and did as Elijah said. And it happened just as Elijah said.
After this, the son of the mistress of the house became so severely sick that there was no breath left in him. She said to Elijah, “What have I to do with you? You have come to me to bring my sin to memory, and to kill my son.” He said, Give me your son. Elisha took him from her lap and laid him in the upper room on his bed and cried to the Lord, “Lord, have you brought evil on the widow with whom I am staying, by killing her son?” He lay on the child three times and pleaded, “Lord, please let his life return.” The Lord heard and answered his prayer. And Elijah gave the son to his mother in the lower room, with the words, “Behold, your son lives.” The woman said, “Now I know that you are a man of God. The Lord’s word in your mouth is truth.”
