Rehoboam, son of Solomon became king in Judah. He was forty-one years old and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem. His mother was Naama an Ammonitess. Judah also provoked the Lord God by building high places, pillars, and Asherah poles on every high hill and every green tree. Also temple prostitutes did according to the abominations of the nations which the Lord of Israel had driven out. In the fifth year of Rehoboam, Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem and took away the treasures of the house of the Lord, took all the gold shields which Solomon had made, and replaced them with shields of copper. And there was war between Rehoboam and Jeroboam all his life. Rehoboam slept with his fathers in Jerusalem. His son Abijah became king in his place.
