And Jeroboam raised his hand against Solomon. Solomon built the Millo, to close the gap in the city of David. Jeroboam was valiant man and he was made ruler over all labor of the house of Joseph. At the time, when Jeroboam went out of Jerusalem, the prophet Ahijah from Shiloh met the on the way. Jeroboam was wearing a new garment. Ahijah took him, ripped the garment into twelve pieces and said, ”Take ten pieces, for thus says the Lord, the God of Israel,‘ Behold, I will tear the kingdom out of the hand of Solomon and give ten tribes to you.
He shall have one tribe, for my servant David’s sake and for the city of Jerusalem’s sake, which I chose, because he has forsaken me and worshipped Ashtoreth, Chemosh and Milcom. I will let him be prince all the days of his life for David’s sake. I will give you ten tribes and his son one tribe. So I will take you and you will reign over all that your heart desires, and shall be king over Israel. If you obey what I command you, as did David My servant, I will give you Israel and I will humble the offspring of David for a time.”
Therefore, Solomon tried to kill Jeroboam. And Jeroboam arose and fled to Egypt and stayed there until Solomon died. Solomon reigned forty years until he slept with his fathers in the City of David. His son Rehoboam became king in his place.
