In the 480th year after Israel’s Exodus from Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon’s reign, in the month of Ziv, on the second day (in the second month) the house of the Lord was built. The house that King Solomon built the Lord was 60 cubits (31 meters) long, 20 cubits (10 meters) wide and 50 cubits (15 meters) high. He built a porch of 20 cubits in length along the width of the house, and 10 cubits wide in front the house. He made windows with fixed lattice work for the house, and built floors all around, against the walls of the house. He made side rooms all around. The lowest floor was five cubits wide, and the middle was six cubits wide, and the third was seven cubits wide, for on the outside he made offsets in the wall all around. When the Temple was under construction, the stone was prepared at the quarry, so no hammer or ax or any tool of iron was heard during the construction. The door for the middle side rooms was in the right side of the house, so they went up by winding stairs from the middle floor to the third. He covered the house with planks of cedar. He built the floors all along the house, each five cubits high and they rested on the house with beams of cedar. And inside, he paneled it with wood, the floor was covered with boards of cypress wood. And 20 cubits from the back of the house he built a wall of cedar boards from floor to ceiling and then built the most holy place, the sanctuary, where the ark of the covenant of the Lord was placed. He made an altar of cedar in front of it. Solomon overlaid the house inside with pure gold, including the altar. Two cherubim of olive-wood, each ten cubits high, the wing of each cherub was five cubits. He overlaid the cherubim with gold. There were carvings of palm trees, cherubim and flowers all around. Even the floor was covered with gold foil. The entrance of the sanctuary had two doors with five-cornered posts, covered with gold. Four-cornered posts led to the temple hall with two doors made of cypress wood, which had two wings. He built the inner court with three layers of cut stone and a layer of cedar beams. In the fourth year, in the month of Ziv, the foundation was laid for the house of the Lord. In the eleventh year, in the month Bul (the eighth month) it was completed, according to its specifications, so they spent seven years building it.
