Doubts about the authenticity of this Epistle were held even in ancient times. There are significant linguistic differences when compared to the first Epistle. The second chapter is almost a copy of the Epistle of Judas. The prophets are put at the same level as the Apostles. The author also speaks from an outside point of view, not as a member. Only after the 3rd century was this Epistle sometimes vaguely included in the biblical canon. It is considered to be the most recent text in the New Testament. Skeletal remains are purported to have been collected by Emperor Constantine in the 4th century in the Agar Vaticanus. Peter’s bones are supposed to been among them.
