This Epistle refers to the Galatian region which was originally a northern colony of the Roman province and was written before the Epistle to the Romans. Some of the thoughts in this Epistle have been developed further in the Epistle to the Romans. The Epistle to the Galatians was written hastily and reveals the unsteady manner of thinking of this descendant of the Gauls and also the influential support of the Jews against the Galatians. These Celts had rough customs, they were wild warriors that were all about power struggles with wooden shields and swords and were completely adverse to the finer ways of Greece and Asia Minor.
