And they learned that they were on the island of Malta. The people there were very friendly, they lit a fire and sheltered everyone because of the rain and the cold.

But when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks and laid them on the fire, a viper came out because of the heat, and fastened on his hand. The people that saw that, thought he was a murderer who was condemned to death. Paul threw the creature in the fire and no harm came to him.
The people waited for a long time for the poisonous bite to work. But soon they changed their mind about Paul and said he must be a God!
