In the twenty-third year of Joash, Jehoahaz became king over Israel in Samaria and reigned seventeen years. He did everything that displeased the Lord. The Lord’s anger was kindled against Israel and he delivered them into the hand of Hazael king of Aram. Jehoahaz pleaded to the Lord about Hazael and he answered him and gave them a savior, but they still did not depart from the sins of the house of Jeroboam. The image of the Asherah also remained in Samaria. There was not much remaining after the war against the king of Aram. In the thirty-seventh year of Joash king of Judah, Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz became king of Israel and reigned in Samaria for sixteen years. And he did what displeased the Lord. Jehoash slept with his fathers in Samaria and Jeroboam sat on his throne.
